Gay Flash Fiction

(informational promo by Stan Ridge)

Find you sometimes just don’t have the time to read the longer stories in Forbidden Fruit? Or perhaps you write, but your work seems shorter and less “filled out” than what appears here. Or you may be wondering if there are other story sites with pieces in much the same spirit. If so, you should have a look at the GayFlashFiction e-zine. You may like what you read there.

Many authors whose work you enjoy here publish their smaller gems in GayFlashFiction, most recently Sharon Maria Bidwell, Fiona Glass, Alex Hogan, Kiernan Kelly, Renée Manley, Rowan McBride, J.E. Mountney, and Anel Viz. The similarity with ForbiddenFruit is no surprise. Four of the people who came to Fiona’s rescue and helped produce the current issue are on the GayFlashFiction editorial team. You’ll also find poetry, portraits, and other short genres in its archives.

What is flash fiction? Very short stories, 1000 words or less (we’ve had some under 10!), each complete in itself, with a beginning, a middle and an ending, the essence of GLBT fiction encapsulated in miniature.

Since the zine began a little over a year ago, 41 pieces have appeared in 9 issues. We’ve had some issues (the other kind of issues) lately, when we switched servers and at the time most of its editors also signed on to ForbiddenFruit, but it’s up and running now, and eager for past readers to return and new submissions to start flowing in. So check it out. With stories this short, it certainly won’t take much time out of your busy schedules. What do you have to lose?

Stanley Ridge, a native New Yorker, has for over 30 years made his home in the Midwest, where he teaches in a small liberal arts college.  He also works as a literary translator.  His life as a professor and scholor, father of two wayward sons, owner of a large, friendly dog, and for over five years partner of a beautiful man, keep him very very busy.  He devotes much of the little spare time he has to writing and somewhat less of it to his duties on the editorial team of two m2m on-line literary magazines.  He likes to travel and has spent nearly a quarter of his life abroad, mostly in French-speaking countries.
